Why are you giving it away for FREE? I get asked that a lot, and the simple truth is that most people are looking for a book like this not just for a digital copy of the book’s content, but for the actual physical book.

Giving away a PDF version serves three purposes:

  1. Provides a digital copy of the book for owners of a physical copy
  2. Allows people wanting to preview the book to get more than just a few pages. Don’t get me wrong, I am thankful for every copy of the book sold, but as a consumer I would rather know that the book I’m spending my money on is what I am looking for rather than wasting my money if it isn’t the right fit.
  3. Gets the book in more hands than I would simply selling a physical copy. It’s ridiculous (except to groups like the RIAA) to assume that everyone who downloads the PDF version would have bought a copy of the book if there wasn’t a free version available.

  1. John Said,

Great book. I’m reviewing the pdf version, but so far it looks quite in depth. I might refer this to some of my users. =D

  2. Matthew J. T. du Plessis Said,

  3. Aaron Said,

Hi, thank you for the free pdf download of your book. I’ve wasted money on numerous programming books trying to learn how to use some (any) language but haven’t found one written for beginner programmers that takes a project-oriented approach (and the projects are fun to build) .. I’m hoping this book will be much better (based on the title) .. if so, I will be spending my dollars on a physical copy.

  4. Ritchie Said,

You don’t appear to have a spiral bound version. Make one, send me an email, and I’ll buy a copy!

While I’ve not gone completely through the PDF version, would you consider including a real world example? For instance, complete code listing, where to place each piece, setting permissions and access rights codes, and, finally, how to invoke the application.

[...] Beginner to Intermediate PHP5 By nicolask A collection of over 250 PHP functions with clear explanations in language anyone can understand, followed with as many examples as it takes to understand what the function does and how it works. 6. Mathew Said,

    Hi,

Want to say i looked at the PDF version back several months ago, and as soon as i glanced at it iwas amazed.

Being new to PHP at the time this book came in great hand. I decided to buy the book format from Amazon.

Not only to support the person who created this book, it is nice to read something off screen for a change and have something to hand.

I use it everday for reference and cannot highly recommend it enough.

This is the best book i have ever owned.

What makes it unique is specially for a beginner/learner is that everything is explained so simlply and examples are shown. One or two areas could be better explained but this does not let it down at all.

I am delighted with my purchase and hope future books of this sort continues to grow and come out.

I take it on journeys with me all the time, so not only do i use it everday with it by my side, i can learn and study at my own pace when going places.

I also think a few more things could have been included, advanced functions etc, well some are not that advanced but are missing.

Althou it tends to have every function etc that people use all the time, which makes this book more desirable. I hate books that show code that is hardly ever used or write it different to most other programmers would write it.

Thank you and best of luck with future versions.

I will be certainly checking back now and then for future releases.

    Regards,
    Mathew
